What is Ultra-Wide Band (UWB)?

UWB is a unique radio technology that can use extremely low energy levels for short-range, high-bandwidth communications over a large portion of the radio spectrum from 3.1 to 10.6 GHz. To ensure it does not interfere with other technologies that operate in this frequency band, it has a very low power spectral density. It can provide a data rate of up to 1Gbit/s within a 10-meter radius for wireless personal area communications.

One advantage of this low power spectral density is that transmission using UWB is very secure. Thanks to its low-power characteristics, it enables the development of tracking systems with high-precision and wide range capabilities unlike any other wireless technology (Wifi, Bluetooth). UWB has a broad range of applications, from real-time locating like iPosition , to tracking like iFollow .

The ultra-wideband (UWB) market is expected to reach USD 85.4 million by 2022. The growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has allowed various wireless communication technologies to be developed. UWB technology is extensively adopted in asset tracking in manufacturing industries and as a tool to ensure security at work. Apple has released the iPhone 11 that integrates a UWB positioning system. UWB will be in the near future widely used in companies for security and management. We estimate UWB will be addressing in the region of 400 Million Devices by 2022.
